Elk walk through town
The elk herd lives in Cataloochee Valley, about an hour from the cabins, and some wander through Maggie Valley itself. The fall rut runs roughly mid-September through October, when the park closes the fields to people.
Stay at least 25 yards away in the park and 100 yards in town, and never feed or approach them.
Weather by month
NOAA 1991 to 2020 averages for Waynesville. The cabins sit about 500 feet higher and run a few degrees cooler.
